For the Birth Mother

My 5 year old asked me yesterday if his baby sister would be in my belly soon.  As I spoke to him about the miracle of adoption and how this little girl would come to join our family, I realized how special you are to us already.

I told Darren that this little girl had an important work to do.  She would be sent to earth to bless two families, not just one.  I explained that there is a very special mommy out there who is very strong, so loving, and so completely selfless.  "This mommy is our angel."  She is a very special person who can help us with our miracle.  She is brave, she is caring, she is very much like our Savior, in that she will do for us what we cannot do for ourselves.  She will provide us with a gift that is precious and will be treasured.

She doesn't know that we've been praying for her.  She doesn't know that we hope she is happy and healthy.  We pray that she is treated with great care and love throughout her pregnancy and always.  We love her even though we haven't met her yet.  She is a child of Heavenly Father who loves her and has trusted her with this incredible mission; to deliver a little miracle to our family.

If we could, we would put our arms around her right now and say, "Thank you.  We love you.  We will always love you."  Those words won't be enough to express how we feel about this angel of ours.  We will never be able to repay her for what she will do for us.  All we can do is take your little sister in our arms and treasure her.  We will love this daughter with all the love that is in us.  Our home will be a refuge and a place of peace and joy where she will grow.

Whether our adoption is open or closed, our little girl will know that she is loved by two families and that she came from the belly of an angel.

Love,
Emily

  1. This made me tear up. My extended family has two adopted members- both of whom are loved dearly. I can't even imagine what our life would be like without them. I am so glad to see that people are still making the decision to adopt!
